Establishing Territory
The remodeled library is open to students now. There's still some finish work to be done but I can function and offer services to students and staff. The fun part is watching students "establish territory" as they try to figure out where they want their spot to be. There was no official announcement to open the library as the "Grand Opening" with ribbon cutting ceremony won't take place until all of the details are finished. Access has spread via word of mouth and social media. I knew the new space would be a success when students said they'd seen pictures on Snapchat and Instagram. The oohs and aahs make my day. Whatever functional issues I may have for supervision and use of the space are overshadowed by the fact that the students want to be here. It's a good thing when I have to make them leave to go to class.
